Removing Stubborn Stains

The team at J’s Tailor & Cleaners understands the frustration of stubborn stains that need immediate attention. We are here to help! Sometimes the hardest stains to remove call for a little patience and some much-needed elbow grease. Welcome to our handy stain-removal guide that comes with a promise to tackle even the most difficult messes!

Red Wine

Picture this – it’s the end of the workweek; you just poured yourself a glass of your favorite red wine, changed into your brand new cozy sweats, and turned on the latest binge-worthy series. All of a sudden, you sneeze and wine spills on your new sweatpants. What now? The secret is actually the use of a clean damp cloth and then a dab of white wine. Who knew? Remember to blot, don’t rub!

Pen Ink

If you’re working from home, in the office, or on a business trip, pens are a necessity. Whether it’s occasionally or frequently, it’s easy to accidentally mark up your clothes when your mind is deep in concentration. The first step to take to stop the spread is to create a “dam” around the stain with petroleum jelly. Apply isopropyl alcohol with a clean toothbrush or an eyedropper – whatever happens to be on-hand! Dab with a cotton ball to remove residue, let dry, and rinse with dish-soap.

Ketchup or Tomato Sauce

Every parent knows that ketchup is the answer to food aversion during meal times. What happens when your child reaches over only to wipe a handful of the red condiment all over the bottom of your shirt? Quickly apply a combination solvent (standard in most store-bought stain-fighters.) You can also use an eyedropper and diluted vinegar to remove any remaining color. Flush the stain on a cool regular wash cycle to lock in the stain removal.

Food Grease

Have you ever been out at your favorite pizza spot only to get home to find grease stains down the front of your blouse? We have the answer to your building anxiety. Walk over to your pantry and find a container of cornmeal. Sprinkle as much as you need on the stain until it fully absorbs the grease and wa-lah!

Sweat Marks

Living in the Texas heat can be a blessing and a curse, depending on how you look at it. One unfortunate outcome is the stubborn sweat stains that can alter any outfit from chic to sloppy. Good news is, there’s an answer! Treat your perspiration marks with pre-wash stain remover. The next step requires you to wash the clothing in the hottest water recommended for the particular fabric. Remember to use an enzyme detergent and oxygen bleach for the best turn out.

Stubborn stains don’t have to be the end of an era for your favorite clothing. If you ever find yourself struggling with the removal of an unwanted mark, bring in your clothing to J’s Tailor & Cleaners for those moments where standard laundry detergent won’t do and you’re unsure where to turn to next.
